In 1865 Port Hacking Road connected the district of Port Hacking with Sydney. Formerly known as Highfield Caringbah was known for its market gardens, then for it's poultry farms and orchards. In 1911 the Sutherland Cronulla Tramway was established and the name Caringbah was adopted. If the tram was laden with heavy goods the locals would gather tighter to push the tram up the hill at Miranda. In 1925 a school opened at the corner of Port Hacking Road and Burraneer Bay Road. Camellia Gardens was named in honour of E G Waterhouse who become a professor of German. The gardens have become known to the local as a beautiful spot for wedding photo's and taking the family. Caringbah High is a selective School and Endeavour High is well known as a sports school, having had such talent as Ian Thorpe and many great Cronulla Sharks players. Caringbah adjoins Dolans Bay, Yowie Bay, Lilli Pilli, & Woolooware
